Evening Prayer
INTRODUCTION
God, + come to my assistance.
— Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
— as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
HYMN
With ringing praises, Luke, we sing your triumph,
bright shining witness, as you shed your life blood,
and we extol you for your crown of vict’ry,
prize of high merit.
Led by the Spirit, you gave us a Gospel,
with love and fervor, teaching ev’ry nation
Christ’s loving mercy: miracles and teachings
of the Good Shepherd.
Then you recorded for all future ages
in gracious writings acts of the Apostles,
thereby revealing Jesus the Redeemer
to ev’ry nation.
Paul’s true disciple, friend and wise companion,
thoughtful observer of the heart’s deep wisdom,
beg Christ to give us charity and goodness,
souls filled with ardor.
Luke, kind physician, bring your art and heal us
of all our evils with the faith that gladdens,
that God may grant us to possess us fully
praising him always. Amen.

Psalm Prayer
Father, precious in your sight is the death of the saints, but precious above all is the love with which Christ suffered to redeem us. In this life we fill up in our own flesh what is still lacking in the sufferings of Christ; accept this as our sacrifice of praise, and we shall even now taste the joy of the new Jerusalem.

Joyful hope in God
Just as you share in sufferings, so you will share in the divine glory (2 Corinthians 1:7).

We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, in our prayers for you because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you bear toward all the saints—moved as you are by the hope held in store for you in heaven. You heard of this hope through the message of truth, the gospel, which has come to you, has borne fruit, and has continued to grow in your midst, as it has everywhere in the world.

INTERCESSIONS
Our God is the Father of light. Through the good news of his Son he has called us to believe in the truth. Let us pray now for his holy people as we say:
Lord, remember your Church.
Father, you raised your Son, our Good Shepherd, from the dead,
— make us his witnesses to the ends of the earth.
Lord, remember your Church.
You sent your Son into the world to bring good news to the poor,
— give us courage to bring that good news to all peoples.
Lord, remember your Church.
You sent your Son to sow the word of life,
— help us to sow his word and to reap its harvest with joy.
Lord, remember your Church.
You sent your Son to make the world one through his blood,
— may all of us work together for this unity.
Lord, remember your Church.
You set your Son at your right hand in the heavens,
— open the gates of your kingdom to those who have died.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
(Gathering our prayer and praises into one, let us offer the prayer Christ himself taught us:)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
CONCLUDING PRAYER
Father,
you chose Luke the evangelist to reveal
by preaching and writing
the mystery of your love for the poor.
Unite in heart and spirit
all who glory in your name,
and let all nations come to see your salvation.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

DISMISSAL
If a priest or deacon presides, he dismisses the people:
