Blessing the Paschal Lamb

Lord, you enjoined your servant Moses
to kill and lamb and mark the doorposts with its blood.
You thus delivered your people from the bondage of Egypt
and prefigured our deliverance from sin
though the death and resurrection of your Son.
Bless and sanctify this meat (this lamb).
As we eat this food,
may we praise and glorify you
through the true Paschal Lamb
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Blessing Eggs

Father in heaven,
your Son, Jesus, burst forth from the tomb
to give us new life.
We give you thanks as we bless these eggs.
May we partake of their nourishment

A A reading from the holy gospel according to St. John
21:20-25

The beloved disciple

Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?” When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come?* What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”  So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die. But Jesus had not told him that he would not die, just “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours?” It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.

B A reading from the holy gospel according to St. John
2:1-11

The wedding feast at Cana

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.  When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”  Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”

Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.

BLESSING

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this wine,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
Through the intercession of St. John the Evangelist,
bless and protect all who believe in you
and all who drink of this wine.
Preserve them from every evil, harm and sin.

Stewardship of creation

Then God said: Let us make human beings in our image, after our likeness. BLESSING OF LILIES IN HONOUR OF ST. ANTHONY

6:24-33

Learn from the lilies of the field

No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the lilies of the field grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them.

If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’ All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.

PRAYER

Father,
you provide for the birds that neither sow nor reap,
and take care of the wild flowers that neither work nor spin;
you bestow spiritual gifts upon your faithful sons and daughters
and reward their fidelity with eternal salvation.
Bless + these lilies in honor of St. Anthony.
Grant health of mind and body,
holiness, happiness and peace
to those who receive these blessed lilies,
and seek to observe the gospel values of your Son,
who lives and reigns with you for ever.

(This scapular is made of two pieces of white wool, bound together by piping of heavy threading. One side has sewed to it the image, printed on silk or similar material, of our Mother of Good Counsel which is venerated in the shrine in Genazzano, with the inscription Mother of Good Counsel. The other side has attached to it the pontifical insignia, that is, the tiara with the keys, and the inscription in Latin or English: Children, follow her counsels, from Leo XIII)

TRINITARIAN BLESSINGS


BLESSING AND CONFERRAL OF THE TRINITARIAN SCAPULAR


INTRODUCTION

The blessing and conferral of the scapular should, if at all possible, be carried out in a communal celebration. Whenever the conferral is a way of receiving members of the faithful into the confraternity or other association aggregated to the Trinitarian Order, this reception must be carried out by a member of that Order or else by a minister deputed by the competent authority of the Order.

On the occasion of the blessing and conferral, the scapular itself, of the design and material prescribed by the confraternity or association, must be used. Afterward, a medal blessed in the same rite may replace the scapular.

Whenever a person joins the confraternity or an association in order to share spiritually in the life of the Trinitarian Order, the particular norms established the Institute must be respected and followed exactly.

RITE OF BLESSING

INITIAL RITES

When all have gathered, a hymn of praise is sung to the Holy Trinity. Then all make the sign of the cross as the minister says:

In the name of the Father, +
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

R. Amen.

GREETING

The minister greets those present in the following or other suitable words, taken preferably from sacred Scripture:

Through the Son, born of the Virgin Mary,
in the communion of the Holy Spirit,
every blessing comes to us from God our Father.
May his grace and peace be with you all.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God our Father,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

INTRODUCTORY COMMENTARY

In the following or similar words, the minister – or some other suitable person – prepares those present for the rite of blessing:

God uses ordinary things as signs to express his extraordinary mercy towards us. Through simple things as well we express our gratitude, declare our willingness to serve God, and profess the resolve to live up to our baptismal commitment.

 This scapular is a sign of belonging to the Order of the Most Holy Trinity, approved by the Church. The scapular thus expresses our intention of sharing in the spirit and in the fellowship of prayer of that Order. That intention renews our baptismal resolve to put on Christ, with the help of the Virgin Mary, to the praise and glory of the Trinity, until, living in its mystery of love, and dressed for the wedding feast, we reach our home in heaven.

READING OF THE WORD OF GOD

Then a reader, or one of those present, reads a text of sacred Scripture, taken preferably from those found in the Lectionary for the Most Holy Trinity.

Otherwise: (1 John 4:7-16)

Brothers and sisters, listen to the Word of God from the first letter of St. John the Apostle.                                                                                                        

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit. Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.

BRIEF EXHORTATION

If opportune, the minister gives a brief homily in which he explains to those present the biblical reading and the meaning of the celebration.  Then there is a short period of silence.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

The intercessions are then said. From the following intentions, those best suited to the occasion may be used or adapted, or other intentions that apply to the particular circumstances of the persons or needs of the time may be composed.

God, the Father of all goodness, has chosen the pure womb of the Virgin Mary for the Word of life to put on our flesh through the power of the Holy Spirit, so that we might become sharers in the grace of Christ, the first-born of many brothers, and live for the glory of God. Relying on the intercession of Mary, the Mother of Good Remedy, and of the Saints of the Trinitarian Family, let us pray together, saying:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

Father, you willed to have your beloved Son take on our humanity, so that in him we might share in your own life; grant that we may be called and truly be your children. For this we pray:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

You wished Christ to be in every respect like us, but without sin, so that in following him we might share in his filial image; grant that we may follow Christ so as to please you in all things. For this we pray:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

You call all those who are clothed in the wedding garment of the kingdom to the feast of your grace, where you reveal yourself to them; teach us to serve and love you loyally. For this we pray:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

Through Saint Paul you urge us to be the sweet fragrance of Christ’s goodness in the world; let us become the sign of Christ’s presence for our brothers and sisters. For this we pray:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

You clothe us with the robe of righteousness and holiness, so that through the Holy Spirit we may live for you and show forth the holiness of your Church; through Christ make us grow in holiness, so that we may work together generously for the salvation of others. For this we pray:

R.Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

You continually bestow on us in Christ every spiritual blessing, until, clothed in the wedding garment, we go out to meet Christ at His coming; grant that, attentive to the Holy Spirit and through the prayers of Mary, we may pass from death to life with all the Saints of our Family. For this we pray:

R. Father, grant that we may put on Christ, your Son, in the love of the Spirit.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

When the petitions above are omitted, before the formula for blessing the Minister says:

Let us pray.

And all pray in silence for a moment.

PRAYER OF BLESSING

With hands outstretched, the minister continues with the prayer of blessing:

O God,
the author and perfecter of all holiness,
you call all who are reborn of water and the Holy Spirit
to the fullness of life in Christ
and the perfection of charity.
Look with kindness on those who devoutly receive this scapular
to the praise and glory of the Holy Trinity.
As long as they live,
let them become sharers in the image of Christ Your Son;
and after they have fulfilled their mission on earth
with the help of the blessed Virgin of Good Remedy,
our holy founder John of Matha.
and all the Saints of our Family
receive them into the joy of your heavenly home.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

CONFERRAL OF THE SCAPULAR

Then the minister puts the scapular on each of the candidates, saying the following words:

Receive this habit
as the sign of your acceptance as part of our religious family
which is dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity.
Live in such a way that,
with the help of the Virgin Mother of Good Remedy,
you may more and more put on Christ
who redeemed us by his blood,
for the glory of the Holy Trinity
and for the service of the Church and of your neighbor.
R. Amen.

As circumstances suggest, the minister may, in a clear voice, pronounce the formulary of conferral once for all the recipients. They all join together in replying “Amen,” then go one by one to receive the scapular from the celebrant.

After the conferral, the minister, facing the new confraternity members, says:

By being clothed with this scapular
you have been accepted into our religious community
in order that you may more fully serve Christ and His Church
in the spirit of the Trinitarian Order.
So that you may more completely achieve that goal,
I admit you, in virtue of the power entrusted to me,
into a participation in all the spiritual favors
belonging to our family.
May the Holy Trinity strengthen you in faith,
grant vigor and steadfastness to your hope
and day by day increase your charity.

Then the minister explains the duties and obligations proper to the members of the association.

CONCLUDING RITE

The minister stretches out his hands over those present and says the following or another suitable formulary:

God our Father has called you to be members of our family;
may he bless you with joy and steadfastness in the faith.

May Christ Jesus make firm your footsteps on the path of the Gospel
and make you true witnesses of His love.
R. Amen.

May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, dwell within you always
and bring your good intention to fulfillment.

And may the blessing of almighty God,

The celebration is ended with a hymn to the Trinity.  


BLESSING OF THE CHAPLET OF THE TRISAGON

INTRODUCTION

The rite proposed here for the blessing of a large number of Trisagion chaplets is to be used fittingly on the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity or on feasts of the Order. The rite may be used by a priest or deacon. If a single Trisagion chaplet is to be blessed, or just a few, the minister may use the short rite.

RITE OF BLESSING

INITIAL RITES

When all have gathered, a hymn is sung in honor of the Most Holy Trinity. Then all make the sign of the cross as the minister says:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

R. Amen.

GREETING

The minister greets those present in the following or other suitable words, taken mainly from sacred Scripture.

The grace and peace of God our Father,
from whom all blessings come
through the Son and in the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.

R. And also with you.

INTRODUCTORY COMMENTARY

In the following or similar words, the minister or another suitable person introduces the order of blessing:

In the fullness of time, the almighty and merciful God willed to reveal in His only-begotten Son the mystery of the Trinity

Wishing to imitate on earth the choirs of angels in heaven, we adore and worship the Holy Trinity by praying the holy Trisagion, while contemplating the ineffable mystery of His love.

READING OF THE WORD OF GOD

A reader or another person present reads a text of sacred Scripture, taken preferably from those given in the Lectionary for the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

Otherwise:  (Isaiah 6:1-3)

Brothers and sisters, listen to the Word of God from the prophet Isaiah

In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft. "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts!" they cried one to the other. "All the earth is filled with his glory!"

BRIEF EXHORTATION

As circumstances may suggest, the minister may give those present a brief explanation of the biblical text, so that they may understand through faith the meaning of the celebration and learn to pray more devoutly through the use of the chaplet of the Trisagion.
Brief silence.

Then follows the Lord’s prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

PRAYER OF BLESSING

With hands outstretched, the minister says the prayer of blessing:

Father of infinite goodness and mercy,
you have given us your Son and the Holy Spirit
and have revealed to us the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
Hear our prayer:
bless these chaplets of the Trisagion
and all those who with their lips and hearts
praise, adore, thank and glorify the Holy Trinity.
Grant that, diligent in this prayer,
they may grow in faith, hope and love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The reverent recitation of the Trisagion then follows. Then a hymn of praise is sung to the Trinity.

CONCLUSION

The minister extends his hands over those present and says:

May God, who has granted us salvation
in Christ, his Son, and in the Holy Spirit,
and has given joy to the whole world,
shower you with Hs graces and His love.

And may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit,

SHORTER RITE

To begin, the minister says along with those present:

Blessed be the Holy Trinity,
who creates and governs the universe,
blessed now and always.

As circumstances suggest, he may introduce the rite of blessing with a few words.

Then one of those present reads the following text of sacred Scripture: (Rev. 4:6-11)

A reading from the book of Revelation

In front of the throne was something that resembled a sea of glass like crystal. In the center and around the throne, there were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back. The first creature resembled a lion, the second was like a calf, the third had a face like that of a human being, and the fourth looked like an eagle in flight. The four living creatures, each of them with six wings, were covered with eyes inside and out. Day and night they do not stop exclaiming:

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty,
who was, and who is, and who is to come."

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their crowns before the throne, exclaiming:

"Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things; because of your will they came to be and were created."

Then the minister invites those present to pray, saying:

Let us pray.

All pray in silence for a while.  Then follows the Lord’s prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

With hands outstretched, the minister says the prayer of blessing:

Father of infinite goodness and mercy,
you have given us your Son and the Holy Spirit
and have revealed to us the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
Hear our prayer:
bless these chaplets of the Trisagion
and all those who with their lips and hearts
praise, adore, thank and glorify the Holy Trinity.
Grant that, diligent in this prayer,
they may grow in faith, hope and love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R.  Amen.

Then the minister concludes:

May the blessing of almighty God
come down upon all of you who devoutly pray
the chaplet of the Holy Trisagion
in adoration, praise and thanksgiving
to the Most Holy Trinity,
meditating on the mysteries of his infinite love,
in the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
