ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Wisdom 7: 7b, 13
I called upon God, and there came to me the spirit of wisdom;
I learned wisdom in simplicity of heart,
I hand it on ungrudgingly, I do not hide away its riches.
COLLECT
Lord, you know that our thoughts on earth
are full of fear and uncertainty;
through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
from whom your Son took flesh and blood,
send us the gift of counsel
to teach us how to discern your
will and to guide us in all we do.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
FIRST READING
Is 9:1-3, 5-6
The Wonderful Counsellor is given to us.
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom
a light has shone.
You have brought them abundant joy
and great rejoicing,
as they rejoice before you as at the harvest,
as people make merry when dividing spoils.
For the yoke that burdened them,
the pole on their shoulder,
and the rod of their taskmaster
you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
For a child is born to us, a son is given us;
upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
His dominion is vast
and forever peaceful,
from David’s throne, and over his kingdom,
which he confirms and sustains
by judgment and justice,
both now and forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this!

With one heart the disciples continued in steadfast prayer with Mary, the mother of Jesus.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
After Jesus had been taken up into heaven,
the apostles returned to Jerusalem
from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem,
a sabbath day’s journey away.
When the apostles entered the city
they went to the upper room where they were staying,
Peter and John and James and Andrew,
Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew,
James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot,
and Judas son of James.
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,
together with some women,
and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled,
the apostles were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky
a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the holy Spirit
and began to speak in different tongues,
as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

GOSPEL
John 2:1-11
The mother of Jesus said to the attendants: Do whatever he tells you.
✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
the mother of Jesus said to him,
“They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
“Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servers,
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told the servers,
“Fill the jars with water.”
So they filled them to the brim.
Then Jesus told them,
“Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
without knowing where it came from
(although the servers who had drawn the water knew),
the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
“Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee
and so revealed his glory,
and his disciples began to believe in him.
At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:
The Gospel of the Lord.
All reply:
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:
Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
Lord, let the Spirit of counsel,
who so wonderfully overshadowed your handmaid,
the Blessed Virgin,
come upon the gifts we present in worship
and make them pleasing to you.

Our Lady Gave Herself Wholeheartedly to God’s Loving Plan.

℣. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

How generously you poured out
the gifts of your Holy Spirit
upon the Blessed Virgin Mary
to make her worthy
to be the Mother and companion of the Redeemer.
Enlightened by these gifts,
she sought your will unceasingly
and obeyed it with fidelity.
In her canticle of joy
she proclaimed the greatness of your mercy
and gave herself wholeheartedly
to your wise and loving plan
for renewing all things in Christ.
Through him the Angels of heaven
offer their prayer of adoration
as they rejoice in your presence for ever.
May our voices be one with theirs
in their triumphant hymn of praise:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Lord our God,
we have shared in your mysteries
on this memorial of our Lady, Mother of Good Counsel.
Grant that we may learn what is pleasing to you
and receive salvation from your Son,
whom you gave us through the Blessed Virgin Mary
to be our Wonderful Counselor.
Through Christ our Lord.
SOLEMN BLESSING

May the Father of mercies bless you
through the intercession of Blessed Mary ever-Virgin
through whom he chose to remedy the fall of our first parents.

free your hearts from every trace of sin.

May the Holy Spirit
