Masses of the BVM: 40 The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Divine Providence
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Isaiah 49: 13
Can a mother forget her infant,
and not have pity on the child of her womb?
Even if a mother should forget,
you I will never forget.
COLLECT
Lord our God,
your loving providence is always wise and unfailing;
through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin,
Mother of your Son,
remove from us all that would harm us
and grant us all that will be for our good.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
FIRST READING
Is 66:10-14
As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her,
all you who love her;
exult, exult with her,
all you who were mourning over her!
Oh, that you may suck fully
of the milk of her comfort,
that you may nurse with delight
at her abundant breasts!
For thus says the LORD:
Lo, I will spread prosperity over Jerusalem like a river,
and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing torrent.
As nurslings, you shall be carried in her arms,
and fondled in her lap;
as a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
in Jerusalem you shall find your comfort.
When you see this, your heart shall rejoice,
and your bodies flourish like the grass;
the LORD’S power shall be known to his servants,
but to his enemies his wrath.
The word of the Lord.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Ps 131:1, 2, 3
℟. (See Psalm 57:2c) In you my soul takes refuge, O Lord.
LORD, my heart is not proud;
nor are my eyes haughty;
I do not busy myself with great matters,
with things too sublime for me.
℟. In you my soul takes refuge, O Lord.
Rather, I have stilled my soul,
hushed it like a weaned child.
Like a weaned child on its mother’s lap,
so is my soul within me.
℟. In you my soul takes refuge, O Lord.
Israel, hope in the LORD,
now and forever.
℟. In you my soul takes refuge, O Lord.
VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL
John 2:1
℟. Alleluia, alleluia.
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there.
℟. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL
Jn 2:1-11
The mother of Jesus was there. And his disciples believed in him.
✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
There was a wedding in Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
the mother of Jesus said to him,
“They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
“Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servers,
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told the servers,
“Fill the jars with water.”
So they filled them to the brim.
Then Jesus told them,
“Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
without knowing where it came from
(although the servers who had drawn the water knew),
the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
“Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee
and so revealed his glory,
and his disciples began to believe in him.
At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:
The Gospel of the Lord.
All reply:
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:
Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
Lord, in your goodness
accept the gifts of your Church,
so that, through the loving intercession
of the Mother of your Son,
we may receive your mercy and grace
in our time of need.
Through Christ our Lord.
PREFACE: Mary, Mother of Divine Providence
The Blessed Virgin Is the Handmaid of God’s Love and a Generous Mother to Her Children.
℣. The Lord be with you.
℟. And with your spirit.
℣. Lift up your hearts.
℟. We lift them up to the Lord.
℣. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
℟. It is truly right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.
For in the wisdom of your providence
the Blessed Virgin Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit
and gave birth to the Savior of the world.
In Cana of Galilee,
when she interceded with her Son
for the bridegroom and bride,
he gave the first of his signs:
water was turned into wine,
the wedding guests rejoiced,
and the disciples believed in their Master.
Now, enthroned as queen at her Son’s right hand,
she provides for all the needs of the Church
as the handmaid of your love
and as a mother who cares for each of her children,
entrusted to her by Christ Jesus
while he hung upon the Cross.
Now with all the Saints and Angels,
we praise you for ever:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
COMMUNION ANTIPHON

Glorious things are spoken of you, OVirgin Mary,
for he who is mighty has done great things for you.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
God of mercy,
let this heavenly table
continue to strengthen your faithful people,
so that, through the intercession of the Mother of divine providence,

above all else
and receive your help for our earthly needs.
Through Christ our Lord.
