Saturday Salve
SATURDAY SALVE
IN HONOR OF OUR HOLY MOTHER
Every Saturday, except Holy Saturday, at the most appropriate time, as decided upon by each local community, the "Salve" in honor of the Virgin Mary is sung in all the houses of the Order with the participation of all the religious of the community.
When the rite is solemnly celebrated, the religious gather in the sacristy or some other suitable place to process up the center of the church or chapel to the altar, according to custom. The religious enter, two by two, carrying lighted candles if is suitable; the Superior, or the Hebdomadarian, closes the procession accompanied by two religious carrying the aspergil, the aspensory, and the Ritual. During the procession, the "Salutate Mariam" or the "Tota Pulchra" or some other Marian canticle is sung.
The rite may also take place within the context of the celebration of Holy Mass. When this occurs, the celebrant, after the entrance procession and upon reverencing the altar, begins the Mass with the Greeting and then after the Introductory Rite, invites the people to the Penitential Rite, during which, the "Salve" is sung while the celebrant sprinkles the congregation with holy water.
After the "Laudemus Virum" has been sung and the appropriate prayer offered, the Holy Mass continues with the Gloria (if it is a Feast or Solemnity) and then the Collect of the Mass.
In all circumstances, the aspersion rite may be replaced by the incensing of the image of the Virgin Mary first, followed by the religious and/or congregation.
SALUTATE MARIAM
Salutate Mariam, quae multum laboravit in vobis: et dicite: Ave, Clementiae Mater, Consolatrix Afflictorum, Redemptrix Captivorum. Tu Gloria lerusalem, tu Latitia Israel, tu Honorificentia Populi nostri. (Alleluia.)
Let us greet Mary, who has done great things for us, and say: Hail, Mother of Mercy, Comfort of the afflicted, Redmptrix of Captives. You are the Glory of Jerusalem, you are the Joy of Israel, you are the Honor of our People. (Alleluia.)
TOTA PULCHRA
Tota pulchra es, Maria.
Et macula originalis non est in te.
Tu Gloria Ierusalem. Tu Laetitia Israel.
Tu Honorificentia Populi nostri.
Tu Advocata peccatorum.
O Maria. Virgo prudentissima.
Mater clementissima. Ora pro nobis.
Intercede pro nobis ad Dominum lesum Christum.
SALVE REGINA
Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae; Vita, dulcedo et spes nostra salve. Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae. Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes, in hac lacrimarum valle. Eia ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte. Et lesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis post hoc exsilium ostende. O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Hail holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb Jesus. O clement, Oloving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Almighty and eternal God, grant us who rejoice to live under the protection of the Virgin Mary, our Mother and heavenly patroness, to be freed from the evils of this world and to attain the happiness of heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Immediately, the antiphon "Laudemus Virum", is sung in honor of our holy father, Saint Peter Nolasco - this antiphon may be substituted by another song dedicated to our Founding Father, Saint Peter Nolasco.
LAUDEMUS VIRUM
Laudemus virum gloriousum, et parentem nostrum:
Ardentissimam eius caritatem imitari conemur:
Qui exaudivit pauperes vinctos in mendicitate et ferro:
Salvavit eos de manu odientium,
et redemit eos de manibus inimicorum. (Alleluia.)
Let us praise a glorious man our Father, and strive to imitate his ardent love. He heard the cry of those held in chains and captivity; he freed them from their persecutors and redeemed them from the hold of their enemies. (Alleluia.)

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
V. Let us pray: O God, you clothed our Father, Saint Peter Nolasco, with the love of Christ; and through the Blessed Virgin Mary, you made him a messenger of love and liberty for Christians held in captivity. Help us to imitate him by working for all the oppressed and for the edification of your Church. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
